I've decided to use this particular blog as my on line journal of goings on. A place where I can be a little less formal than my other blogs, such as Christopher Moonlight Productions (my favorite blog) and Moonlight Art Magazine. The art magazine has been a challenge, because I love doing it, but it always has to take the back burner for more lucrative projects. It's NEVER made any money, but it has the biggest following, out of everything I do. It's also the place where I can present my first love, comic books, which is also my most neglected love.
Comic books are wonderful. I've been reading them since I was a teenager, and I've always wanted to draw them... but not full time. I'm by no means a mainstream comic artist, and I don't have the energy it takes to stay chained to the drawing board, day after day, when my audience will only ever be a niche within a niche. I'll only commit to it when I have the time it deserves to create truly quality comics, or when I'm getting paid to do it, like I am with...

I've also been working on an all green screen, sci-fi, short film called, "Girl In The Window." It's got robots, aliens, and spaceships. I can't say much more about it now, accept that I might be posting it on www.kickstarter.com for a small amount of funding, in which case, I'll start blogging about it's progress on this blog. Film making is where I really have the most fun, and it's been my dream for a long time to make it my full time work. I plan on finding a way to set up my own mini studio, where I can do everything myself, from per-production to post, no real sets, and just make ultra low budget movies that look like they cost millions. Why this over comics? Film making is a much more high energy endeavor, where you get to write, design, interact with people and materials, and I want to do all of these things. The screen is the biggest canvas people are interested in looking at these days, and it also allows you to do all of these things in one project. I like that.
I got a couple little inspirational boosts not to long ago, too. The fist was my trip to Comic Con, where I had a great time meeting independent film makers like Vera VanGuard and the production designers John Muto, Cece DeStefano, and Mimi Gramatky who were all very encouraging and complementary of my work.

The other was in the form of an impromptu invitation from one of my (almost) life ling heroes Alec Gillis, to take a tour of his famed monster shop, ADI Studios which he owns with other hero of mine, Tom Woodruff Jr. To say the opportunity was overwhelming is an understatement. I didn't get to stay long, and I probably sounded like an idiot, trying to cram a lifetime of feelings and opinions about what they do into a few minutes, but the experience was nothing short of inspiration, in it's purest form. When I was in High School, I saw an HBO behind the scenes on how they did the rod puppets and other creature effects on Alien 3. It changed my life. I immediately made my own puppet, along with my own Alien head, and tried to shoot an Aliens video movie with my friends in the town sewers. True story. I've never stopped trying to do those things since. So, I am truly grateful.
Anyway, as always I should be working, and here I am getting things off my chest. There's only so much time, and I've still got my day job to think about, as well. It takes up 40 hours of my week, but it's paying the bills. As always, I'd love to here from you in the comments section.

There's a new T-Shirt from Moonlight Art Magazine that's a work of art in it's self. Never mind that I designed it, just trust me. It is. It says... well, you can read what it says. But seriously folks, is it any wonder why zombies are so popular right now. We as a society have already been beaten over the head with this sucky economy for far to long, because of greed and stupidity. Would most people find a zombie apocalypse all that bad? Think about it. Say goodbye to that pesky dept. Walk into any store and just take what you need. Just keep your good friends and family close, and let the undead eat the rest. Zombies (well most of them, anyway) don't try to control what you do or think. Once their done walking around thinking about grey matters, do some zombie clean up and live the good life. Live Forever: The Ray Bradbury Odyssey was a big fat sold out hit of a play, and now may be incorporated into a documentary about Ray, with new effects by Christopher Moonlight. Before I Was Cool

Yep, I think this is the post you'll look back on and say, I knew of that guy before he was cool. Big things are happening for me right now, and I think you'll be glad you read this, but befor I get started, I want to thank everyone who has signed onto the Christopher Moonlight mailing list and/or facebook page, as well as the other pages that I have been privileged to work on. Your support means more to be than you'll ever know. Okay, let's get started with the big news.

Come see me next Saturday at The Weekend of Horror! I'll be signing and doing sketches from 2PM to 4PM on Saturday, May 22nd, but my artwork will be on display and for sale there, as well as prints, the whole weekend. It takes place at the LAX Marriott. CLICK HERE for more info.

Moonlight Art Magazine is going digital, but don't worry, we're still in print. For those of you with I Pads and I Phones, you'll soon be able to read my wonderful art magazine electronically, through those devices. Then, when you feel you must own a hard copy, you can order them here. The best part is we will soon be offering hardcovers for those who like to show off their book cases. I know I do. So, what do we have coming up for Moonlight AM? Only Eddie Campbell, Chet Zar, and John Higgens, just to name a few. We've also got more comics, including The Temp by Frank Kane, Children of The Sacred Tree, written by David Paul (who also does all of our comic book lettering) and a super secret project written and drawn by me. Also, look for moonlightartmagazine.com coming very very soon.

Then there's the movie news! (I know, when do I sleep?) The first sneak preview of Negative, a short film I have written and I am directing with actor and producer Jeremy Hanes, and special effects by Rich Goddard, is up now on You Tube. CLICK HERE to watch it, and be sure to leave a comment. We've very excited about this one, and will be taking it to the film festivals, once it is done. Be sure to keep your ears out for during the opening credits for the song Gasoline, written and preformed by Death By Dolls. It will blow your mind. After that it's on to our fetcher length movie, Advent.

New Comic Art: Children of the Sacred Tree

Here is the first penciled page for a new comic I'm working on called Children of the Sacred Tree, by David Paul. This work is a departure from my more cartoony style, and entering into a more realistic, design oriented, realm, like with some of my paintings. I also plan to digitally color these pages, like I did with my psychedelic posters.

Here's a snap of a portrait I did for business woman Nadia Holland. It was done from several photos of her rainging from when she was in her twenties, up until now, there for ended up being a lot of work. However, we worked together on it (her giving her input and me painting after hearing what she had to say) until we got it how she wanted it. I think the end result was rather nice.

New Artwork: What's Your Hairstyle?

Here's a work in progress from beginning to end of a piece I call, "What's Your Hairstyle?" It's for a hairdresser friend of mine, of course, but more importantly, it's my first real attempt at teaching myself to color in Photoshop. Sure I've done it before, but not with the intent of doing anything impressive. During my latest trip to Comic Con, I was privileged to talk to comic book colorists John Higgins (Watchmen) and Sally Hurst. I found them to be lovely people and equally inspiring. They made me want to learn to be a colorist, in short. I know I've got a long to go, but I'm quite pleased with my first attempt.

IN DEPOSIT MAN: PLAYGOD ACT I – The Deposit Man has sworn off any allegiance towards God in protest after a eviction case goes sour results in a severe case of CLONE OUTSOURCING. However, the mishandling of last issue’s case with a crazed Hollywood scripter wanna-be turned out to be member of a species of FLUXERS – souls that have not made their mind up on whether they want to live or die could result in dire entropic consequences if an aborted movie script that God has written has fallen into mysterious, yet familiar enemy hands is not recovered. Now the Deposit Man without a care in the nether-world wanders the afterlife as an independent contractor, taking on any case that will pay the bills.
